Late to the party for tomatillos, but I had to chime in about a recipe I recently found for Chow-chow that uses tomatillos. It's such a nice crunchy side to offer at the dinner table.

Oh fun! Do you have a link to that recipe?? Sounds great.

Bon Appetite has several good recipes for using tomatillos besides just salsa and sauces.☺️ You are definitely my favorite person to follow on Instagram for food recipes and my CSA share has been thoroughly enhanced by your newsletter. As a person of “another era” and not too tech savvy, I most appreciate your simple, straight forward recipe presentations. The gimmicks and music most others use are an unnecessary distraction for me - I want to learn, not be entertained. So thank you for being you!!

Oh, thank you, Jeani :) :) :) It means a lot to read this. I'm so glad you enjoy the simple videos. I will explore the Bon App archives for more tomatillo recipes. Thank you for the suggestion!

I love your newsletter and site! I learned about it from the CupofJo post early in the summer and have made so many of the recipes you share. Thank you! (Also tried cooking sweet corn in the microwave for the first time last week - revelatory!). Tomatillo and pork stew (something like this: https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chile_verde/) is always delicious.

A great tomatillo based dish - Jocón, a Guatemalan specialty. Google "Jocón" and give it a try. It's very, very good!

That sounds fantastic! Just googled it. I would love it!

From Fany Gerson's My Sweet Mexico: Boca Negra Picosito Con Salsa Dulce De Tomatillo (Spiced Chocolate Cake).

Tomatillos are full of pectin so they can be added to fruit sauces and jam for tartness and body. They are a must for green posole, and go well in Persian meat and vegetable stews.

Oh my goodness yum to all of this! I've never thought of them being used in sweet applications, but a jam makes total sense. Thanks for sharing!

This one is so good. I stopped making it years ago because the last time I got tilapia it wasn’t tasty. When you asked for tomatillo recipes you reminded me about it. :) Maybe use a different white fish instead?

Yum! And thank you! My fish market has been selling black sea bass — they're thin white filets. So good! I'll try with those. Thanks for sharing :)

You are welcome! That sounds like a great choice! 😊

Kenji Lopez-Alt’s carnitas recipe on Serious Eats uses quite a few tomatillos (the leftover sauce then makes great chilaquiles).

Yum! And thank you. Can't wait to try this. I love Chilaquiles, too.

Hi! Brand new to the newsletter, but wanted to recommend our favorite tomatillo recipe: pickled tomatillo and chorizo pizza. The pickled tomatillos are surprisingly delightful on pizza, and whatever you don't use will last for awhile in the fridge. https://www.mexicanplease.com/pickled-tomatillo-chorizo-pizza/

Wow, that looks absolutely fantastic, and I am a pizza nut, so this is perfect. Thank you so much for sending!
